Welcome to Our Homepage
Dr. Shigeyuki Mori, Director of ITCN
Stepping just into an entrance of the new millennium, Japanese economy is seemingly
getting back on a recovery track as an aftermath of a lengthy economic malaise
lasting from "lost 1990s". Turning an eye onto a local economy in
Nagasaki, mid- to small-sized regional industries still remain ailing in chronically
plagued recession and continuously pressured by a matured, information-oriented,
modernized global economy. Pulling out of a current economic slump requires
aggressive challenges in raising potentials of R&D, planning, information
gatherings in order to manufacture highly value-added sophisticated items as
well as to flexibly meet diversified customer demands. Isolated efforts of each
enterprise would result in falling a standoff, being left behind in keeping
up with today's innovation pace. Alternative approach therefore must be required,
i.e., coordinated ways of actions traversing different sectors based on a broader
business perspective to promote opinion exchanges among different enterprises,
selections and focusing of business resources with full advantages of their
technological strengths.
In response to such a global trends, seven prefectural research institutes (environmental
& sanitation, manufacturing industry, ceramics, agriculture, fruit cultivation,
livestock industry and fishery) have been integrated as of April, 2004. ITCN,
so far focused mainly on manufacturing industries, is ready to deepen intra-relationships
within other prefectural institutes aimed to apply its technological know-hows
to other fields. We will furthermore enhance three-way intra-partnerships among
the seven local research centers, an academica and regional industrial sectors
to extensively promote harmonized technology developments, making a contribution
to boosting a prefectural economy and creating new industries
Existing grass-root services such as technical consulting, chemical analysis,
measurements and strength tests go on available as an open technology center
for regional industries. Open laboratories and instruments are on public service
from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM in a bid to quickly respond to urgent requests. ITCN
is launching a 2004 fiscal year campaign "door-to-door visit to ten regional
companies per one researcher" to seize technology needs and to solve problems
with company staffs.
Finally, we ITCN staffs would like to cordially welcome industrial technicians,
academic specialists, business entrepreneurs and of course regional citizens
in chorus to explore technology frontiers and to spring new industries in Nagasaki
